HawCC offers nonprofit course
Hawaii Community College’s Office of Continuing Education and Training is offering its Not-for-Profit Management Certificate Program beginning in September.
This noncredit certificate program covers fundamental management skills and is designed to broaden and deepen management knowledge and expertise.
The course benefits new or aspiring executive directors of small to midsize nonprofit organizations, staff, board members, volunteers and certain management staff of larger nonprofit organizations.

Pratt on HPA board of trustees
Sam Pratt was appointed to the board of trustees at Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Waimea.
Pratt, an HPA alumnus, is president of Niu Pia Land Co., a family-operated commercial real estate holding and management company on Kauai.
He is active in the community and serves as chairman of the Kauai Economic Development Board’s Property Management Committee and board chairman of the Waioli Corp.
Pratt also serves on the boards of Island School, Kauai Junior Golf Association and Waikoko Land Corp.
Kenjinkai awards 2 scholarships
Hawaii Shima Fukuoka Kenjinkai awarded $500 scholarships to Waiakea High School graduates Marissa Hayashi and Erin Hakoda for their academic achievement and community involvement, including participation to kenjinkai activities.
The award ceremony was June 30 at the Subaru Telescope Hilo facility. Hawaii Shima Fukuoka Kenjinkai is the private association founded by 1967 by immigrants or descendants of immigrants from Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.
